About Village Stars

Village Stars was created through frustration of dealing with local service providers in my community of Kitchener-Waterloo. It started after an incident in the fall of 2007 dealing with a brick layer to rebuild my chimney. He knocked on my door one day asking if he could give a quick quote. The chimney definitely needed a rebuild so I told him to go ahead and quote. He gave me a quote and I told him to come back after I returned from vacation and we will discuss it then. After returning, I found a pile of bricks stacked at the side of my house. I couldn't believe that this guy decided to take it upon himself to award the business. After a heated conversation with him, I told him to come and get the bricks. Here we are in the spring and after countless calls, the bricks are still here.

The primary purpose of this site isn't necessarily to identify the poor service providers, but identify the great performers. When you search for a service provider, you want those who meet your requirements, not those who don't. As the list grows in your community, it will be a great tool to help take uncertainty out of hiring a provider.

This site is all about the community. Its basic premise assumes the community will share their experiences therefore spreading the word. Your name and contact information is confidential and will not be shared with the community.

Service providers are not allowed to create listings nor do they fund this site in any way. We may, in the future, allow the best performers to offer discount coupons on the site. They will only be allowed this privilege if they continue to rate high scores.

How It Works

After you create an account, you can add a company profile for a service provider. Then you, or anyone else, can create a review and rate the service provider with 1 through 5 stars. Users searching our site will be displayed a list of providers with the highest ratings first. They will also be able to read any related reviews. For example, if someone is looking for a plumber in a certain community, they select that category in their community and a list of plumbers will be returned. By clicking on one of the plumbers, they will be shown the contact information along with any related review. If they choose to hire the plumber, they can add their assessment afterwards.

This concept of online reviews has been around for years for products like software, movies and restaurants. We are offering it for typical service providers like plumbers, handymen, housekeepers, etc.

2. Login to your account.

3. Check List to see if a specific service provider exists or create one.

4. Add a Review once you find the service provider or add one.
